Feds Seeking 'Wearable Alcohol Biosensors' to Track How Much Americans Drink
2015-03-03
[FREEBEACON] The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is offering up to $300,000 for the creation of bracelets that can track how much Americans drink.

The federal agency issued a challenge on Monday for individuals and businesses to invent a "wearable alcohol biosensor" that shows a person's blood alcohol level in real time. The government envisions a device that can be worn by Americans "in the course of their daily lives."
I had two sips of wine on Saturday, though I did reduce about a cup of wine in the course of making a double batch of chili -- possibly I breathed in some of the fumes. I can understand that a Fitbit-type bracelet might be of use when going out drinking, but under what other circumstances?
"Current technologies for real time monitoring of alcohol consumption, used in criminal justice applications, have performed adequately, but have disadvantages for broader use," the NIH said in a notice announcing the challenge in the Federal Register.
"Broader use"......Fallopian tube disrupter ?

The NIH's National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) said it wants a device that can store data on how much a person drinks.

"The device should be inconspicuous, low profile, and appealing to the wearer," the notice said. "The design can take the form of jewelry, clothing, or any other format located in contact with the human body. A non-invasive technology is preferred."

Cause the degreed aholes can't figure it out by beverage sales. Duh. You know the 'revenuers' are particularly interested in that as well. In fact have been tracking production and distribution for many years. Just give them a call for the data.

#9  the 'SCRAM' Ankle Bracelets for 'home-bound' incarceration check real-time blood alcohol levels 24/7.

They only 'upload' the results once or twice a day, though.

#8  Have all politicians wear such devices for a decade and I'll consider it. Otherwise I agree with the second word You comment.

If the REpublicans can't use this to show out of control government they are idiots (but I repeat myself).

#7  You know they're gonna build a backdoor into it so the NSA can have access to all this real time information. They wanna know all about what we're doing but they won't say jack squat about what they're doing. Orwell would have been proud.

#5  How about bullshit detectors for anyone running for, or holding office - either elected or appointed?

I think it would be a good thing - They wouldn't be able to do anything because of the constant beep-beep-beep.

Perhaps it could be mounted to their cellie, or be incorporated as an I-pod sniffer which immediately broadcasts a signal. The steering wheel braced I-pot, or dash mounted cellie [where I see a great many being used] could send a signal to an electric squib which ignites an explosive charge [think claymore mine] killing or disabling the driver/operator instantly. A remote 'command detonator' could be sold separately.

My personal interest lies in the remote command detonator and the 5 county sales district which I intend to apply for.
