2015-03-22
[ARA] On Friday, the commander of the Qods Force of Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Sadiq Yari, was killed during battles against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group (IS/ISIS) in Tikrit, a major city in Salahuddin province in Iraq.

Gen. Sadiq Yari, a close commander to the leader in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Qassem Soleimani, was killed in a suicide kaboom in the city of Tikrit, when the Iraqi government forces backed by the Shiite militia of the Popular Mobilization Forces were locked in fierce battles with IS forces of Evil who are in control of the city.

Meanwhile,
...back at the bunker, his Excellency called a hurried meeting of his closest advisors. It was to be his last. They discussed the officers's efficiency rating system...
the pro-IS news agency of al-Amaq said Friday that the Islamic State's fighters carried out a "martyrdom operation" against several strongholds of the Iraqi government forces and allied militias where they were advancing toward al-Dayyoum in the western part of Tikrit.

The fighting on the western front of Tikrit continued from Friday's early hours of the morning until the evening, without any apparent advancement by government forces.

The Islamic State has been in control of most of Salahuddin province's areas since June 2014, including the city of Tikrit, the hometown of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

#6  I suspect negotiated porosity in the blockade.

#5  the Iran forces have found the Shia militias to be far less competent that they thought and this has led to Iran personnel taking close combat roles in the Tikrit battle

personally I'm surprised at how long ISIS has held out in Tikrit; their logistics has been gone for over a month -- they must have stockpiled much more than anyone thought

#3  It's lunacy to take sides in an ethno-religious civil war, unless you have a clear common interest in one side, which qualifies the Kurds, but not the Shiia or Sunni.

#2  Honestly, I hope they kill the hell out of each other. Don't care if they shia, sunni, civilian, milkman or whatever. They all the same. Time to get mideval on these "ppl". Thats what they understand.

Chris: perhaps you should calm down a bit before posting more commentary in which you call for genocide. Just a suggestion.

#1  Obama's Iranians, Shiite Militia and Iraqi Armed Forces are in disarray at Tikrit.

Obama backed Shiites are also partaking in civilian atrocities in the area.
