#17  The cop who stopped this needs to be commended. He shot and killed both perps. Good shooting.

#16  Yep, and there were probably at least a dozen folks inside with concealed carry weapons so those two might have stepped into a hornets' nest even if they had avoided the police.

#14   I wonder if the Garland police officers on duty last night at the event venue were seriously expecting trouble -

According to what I've read, Sgt. Mom, the organizers arranged for extra security, not just inside and in front of the building, but at a distance and overwatch as well. So I expect they were.

#13  I wonder if the Garland police officers on duty last night at the event venue were seriously expecting trouble - their reaction was so fast, and so (pardon the expression) on target. The reaction to foreseen trouble in other cities (yes, looking at YOU, Baltimore) has usually been so hapless. Have we in red state USA already snapped into a wartime mindset? I think it likely that we already have.

Just as an aside, my daughter and I had a meet today, with a retired FBI agent who is exploring having us do a substantial edit of a book - a thriller that he has written about half of. (He is paying us to exercise our good judgment on his project) but we turned to discussing current events, and he said that he seriously advised a side arm and a concealed carry permit ... and if we weren't able to take the expense and trouble, to carry pepper gas canisters. His face was an absolute study when we both reached into our purses and brought out the little canisters attached to our car keys...

#11  From the Garland, Tx news conference...

After Harn stated that the two shooters “had assault rifles, came around the back of the car, and started shooting at the police car. The police officer in that car began returning fire and struck both men taking them down,” and that he was told the shooters were wearing some kind of “body protection,” one of the reporters asked “could you brag a bit more about your officer here? I think the scenario is, two guys with assault rifles, who may be wearing protective gear up against one officer with a service pistol. Fair to say he did a hell of job last night.”

Harn responded, “he did what he was trained to do. And under the fire that he was put under, he did a very good job. And probably saved lives.”

#10  A tweet before, "May God accept us as Mujahideen"

Seems their request was considered and rejected.

#7  I don't support the burqa.
When you dress like it's Halloween, I think they plan to rob me.

Actually they already did.

#5  and whenever i wear that t-shirt I am aware I am an ambassador for mutual tolerance so I am always polite and kind and friendly to any Muslims I come across.

I support 100% their right to a burqa and to worship as they choose within the law. I also support 100% my right to wear cartoons of Mohammad.

The more we can normalise relations and get along the more we can all win and join forces against Islamofascists.

#4  There's one today Gorb, at the PEN American Centre, they are giving the free expression and courage award to Charlie Hebdo. Michael Ondaatje and five other cowards have refused to attend. Brave Christine Amanpour and Salman Rushdie told them off and praised PEN for its award choice.

I hope they have a SWAT team there, too.

Full marks to Pamela Geller or whoever organised a SWAT team for the "Draw Mohamad" day.

In support i have printed T-shirts with "freedom is my religion" and cartoons of mohammad from jyllands postern plus a charlie hebdo front cover. It's tasteful, it's not being rude about Islam it's just expressing my support for freedom to criticise it. I wear with pride wherever I go.

#1  They were supporting free speech rather than blasphemying Mo.

The police had a good response. This $hit can't be tolerated.
