| Ministry of Interior: Jawand District cleared of militants |

| [Khaama (Afghanistan)] Afghan National Security Forces have taken back Jawand District in northwestern Badghis province from Lions of Islam who had occupied office of the district governor, police headquarters and a number of security check post for over two days. Security forces on Tuesday morning launched a vast operation against rebels in Jawand District and in the afternoon Ministry of Interior declared the district "cleared of bad boys". Ministry of Interior confirmed that security forces stepped back from parts of Jawand District during the bad boy attack but it says that the stepping back was tactical. Bahauddin Qudosi, head of the provincial council of Badghis province had earlier said that office of the district governor, police headquarters and a number of security check posts were abandoned by the officials during the attack. A specific number of the possible casualties is not yet released. Jawand is one of the most populated districts in Badghis province. |
