Gunmen Ambush Bus in Pakistan, Killing Dozens
2015-05-14
[WSJ] KARACHI, Pakistain--At least 43 people were killed when gunnies ambushed a bus in this southern port city, Pak officials said, in a sectarian assault that was the country's first major attack claimed by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
The victims were Ismailis, members of a branch of Shiite Islam, who were traveling together on a bus Wednesday morning.

While Shiites have come under regular assault by the Pak Taliban and its Sunni bad boy allies, Wednesday's bloodshed would be the first time that the central leadership of Islamic State, a virulently anti-Shiite bad boy group that controls parts of Iraq and Syria, has taken responsibility for such an attack in Pakistain.

A message posted on Twitter by an arm of Islamic State calling itself Khorasan Province, an old Islamic term for the Afghanistan-Pakistain region, said the Ismailis were targeted because their beliefs "slander the honor" of the Prophet Muhammad.

Separately, pamphlets Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
police found on the bus claimed to be from Islamic State, security officials said. Police are investigating whether Wednesday's carnage and other recent attacks in Karachi are really the work of the group.

"This time there is a direct claim from this group that it is--on its own admission--part of Daesh," Raja Umar Khattab, head of the counterterrorism unit of Karachi police, told The Wall Street Journal, using an Arabic term for Islamic State. "But this is all circumstantial evidence at the moment. We need more to say with authority that Daesh has actually started operations in Karachi."

In the past, the parent Islamic State organization hadn't confirmed that it was responsible for recent attacks in Pakistain and Afghanistan that were claimed in its name, leaving a confused situation.

The bus had just left a residential complex for Ismailis in the east of Karachi when it came under attack.

#2  Ah, so by being Ismailis they were insulting the honor of antman. Grandstanders. Self promoters. They were asking for it. All that, right?
