| Thai policeman gunned down in drive-by shooting |

| [Bangkok Post] A policeman was gunned down in a drive-by shooting by militants in Narathiwat province Monday evening. Manop Chaichana, a squad leader at the district police station, was found lying in a pool of blood next to his motorcycle on a local road in Si Sakhon district. The officer was returning home about 5 p.m. when he was followed by two men on a motorcycle. The pillion gunman opened fire and shot him five times in the abdomen. The badly injured police officer fell off his bike but managed to fire one shot back. He was admitted to the hospital and later pronounced dead. A police investigator said the bullet fired at the gunman hit and wounded him but did not elaborate. |
