This is what it is like to be catapulted from an aircraft carrier using Electromagnetic Launch System |

The following video was taken on Jun. 16, when ship's sponsor Susan Ford Bales visited Newport News to see progress on the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78). During the demonstration, she gave the signal to fire the EMALS catapult, with two weighted sleds being launched off the carrier around 1:00 p.m. |

#4 Didn't know that about US carriers FA do know for certain early Imperial Navy carriers had multiple hanger and flying off decks. They learned fast tho. |

#2 Joe, Some of the first US carriers had 2 flight decks, complete with catapults. They were removed early in WWII. |

#1 Nice, but I'm wondering iff the US Navy-DOD will see a need for a vertical manned andor unmanned large aircraft launch system, as opposed to the current + still-popular horizontal??? During the 1950's there were proposals for USN CV's wid two or more flight decks. |
