Court Rules Against IRS in Z Street Case |
2015-06-24 |
[FreeBeacon] h/t Instapundit A panel of judges on Friday denied an appeal by the IRS to stop the pro-Israel group Z Street from continuing its lawsuit against the agency for viewpoint discrimination. While the IRS can still appeal the ruling, it moves Z Street closer to the discovery phase of the lawsuit, which the pro-Israel group believes could be damaging for the agency. The IRS has been criticized for its prior stated policy of targeting conservative groups for extra scrutiny during their applications for non-profit status. According to Z Street, the IRS delayed its nonprofit application because the group's pro-Israel views conflicted with the positions of the Obama administration. A lawyer for Z Street said he was told by an IRS official that the agency had an "Israel Special Policy" that singled out pro-Israel organizations for special examination.
