#6 On the Beach scared the piss out of me when I was a kid. I went to the movie and then read the book. Times were pretty paranoid back in the old cold war, mutually assured destruction days. |

#5 Alas Babylon had almost as big an impact on me, although it was a positive impact this time. Hard to believe it was required reading for Florida 9th graders. The idea of McCoy and McDill being nuked made me think. |
