Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul Attacked With Grenade, Guns |
2015-08-19 |
[BLOOMBERG] Assailants tossed a grenade at a guard post at Istanbul's Dolmabahce Palace and then opened fire, setting off a shootout in the center of ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... 's largest city. No one was killed and two members of a leftist krazed killer group were detained. The two suspected attackers were members of the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party--Front, or DHKP-C, a group that's carried out numerous attacks against Turkish and American interests in the country since the 1970s, state-run Anadolu Agency reported. The assailants were the same people who carried out an armed attack on an Istanbul office of Turkey's ruling AK Party on Aug. 8, it said. The attack is the first on a major tourist site in Istanbul amid an escalation in violence between Turkish forces and Kurdish, Islamic and leftist Death Eaters over the past two months. A Turkish multi-front offensive against terrorist groups and the collapse of a three-year truce with Kurdish Death Eaters followed inconclusive general elections in June. |
