Cease-fire Agreement Reached in Ain Al-Hilweh
2015-08-24
[ALMANAR.LB] Paleostinian factions in the southern Paleostinian refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh succeeded Sunday in reaching a cease-fire agreement between the Fatah Movement and Jund al-Sham after an urgent meeting in Al-Nour Mosque.

The meeting was mediated by Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, representative in Leb Ali Barakeh and officials from Asbat al-Ansar.

Earlier on Sunday, violent festivities renewed in the camp between the Fatah Movement and Jund al-Sham as efforts to mediate a cease-fire after Saturday festivities failed.

Several neighborhoods in the southern city of Sidon, including al-Baassiri and al-Njasa neighborhoods, went under prolific sniper early on Sunday.

The overnight festivities, which left 3 dead and 20 maimed, led to the outbreak of fires in homes and damage to properties and cars and had forced many Paleostinians to flee to the city of Sidon.

Despite the agreement that was reached overnight in Ein el-Hellhole between the feuding parties, intermitted gunfire continued until midnight and it included hand grenades and sniper fire that forced the closure of a number of roads leading to the camp.

The Lebanese Army boosted its security presence at the entrances of Ain al-Hilweh, allowing only the maimed and those fleeing the battles to leave the camp.
