As Saudi MERS total grows, study hints at increased transmissibility
2015-09-12
The size of the S Korean outbreak - 186 confirmed cases -indicated increased transmissibility and this is laboratory confirmation.

It's not clear to me if this strain is circulating in Saudi, but with the Haj starting soon, we are about to find out.

If a well organized society like S Korea had such difficulty containing it, I'd expect much larger outbreaks in most muslim countries.

#5  p.s. As long as they don't blame it on the Jews, it's not really serious.

#4  Maybe Gaia is growing tired of Islam?

#3  With as many as 400 Norks in Libya, you have to wonder what they are doing there.

But no Mers outbreaks in Libya, and it's only been known for 3 years, ie post-Gaddafi. So Nork involvement looks unlikely.

BTW, Mers is like bird flu, with apparently multiple transmissions from animals (camels+??), so can't be eradicated like SARS and Ebola.

#2  So, in your commentary, any thoughts about the DPRK meds and techs found leaving Libya? Think they've been studying MERS to take home?

#1  That is my commentary, which I forgot to highlight.
Fixed.
