| Turkey says wall along Syrian border to be completed soon |

| [Rudaw] ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... has finished the first phase of a 36.5 kilometer wall along its border with Syria, CNN Turk reported Thursday, to stop the influx of more war refugees. It said the first phase of the barrier, on the Syrian-Turkish border city of Hatay, had been completed. Each barrier block is three meters high and two meters wide, the network said, and weighs seven tons. Each has been stamped with the Turkish government's logo. CNN Turk reported that the wall project is to be completed in the next few days, putting a stop to smugglers and migrants en route to Europe. Turkey has captured more than 500 refugees for trying to cross the border illegally in several provinces around the country over the past three days, the Hurriyat Daily News reported on Wednesday. Some two million war refugees, mainly from Syria, have fled to Turkey, where most are housed in camps. |
