| Policeman gunned down by suspected Abu Sayyaf militants |

| [SunStar] Gunmen believed to be Abu Sayyaf militants gunned down a police officer in Sulu province. Joint Task Group Sulu commander Alan Arrojado identified the slain policeman as Espaldon Tingkahan. Arrojado said Tingkahan was assassinated early Saturday morning near an airport in the village of Liang, Patikul. He said Tingkahan was on his morning jog when repeatedly shot by two alleged Abu Sayyaf militants among the other joggers. The runway that runs from Jolo town to Patikul serves as the jogging place for local residents. Arrojado said troops stationed nearby responded and engaged in a gun battle with the suspects, who managed to escape. |
