Police station in northern Kunduz recaptured
2015-10-28
[Tolo News] The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) successfully managed to retake the police headquarters in Dasht-e-Archi district of northern Kunduz province on Monday night after the facility fell to the Taliban two years ago.

According to deputy chief of army staff Gen. Murad Ali Murad, security force members were also able to retake control of the district's market.

Murad, who is leading the clearance operation in the area, told TOLOnews: "Fifteen Taliban insurgents including their deputy shadow governor, Mullah Rahim were killed in clashes with the security forces and three other insurgents were injured."

"The operation will continue to clear all insurgents as we promised the residents of Kunduz," he said.

Murad stated that the clashes between the ANSF and Taliban insurgents still continue and the forces are moving forward.

However, he did not provide details about ANSF or civilian casualties.

Local military officials said however that the ANSF has also had the support of the air force, which has carried out attacks on insurgents – especially their vehicles.

The military commanders said that they are sure they will retake control of the district governor's compound as well by Tuesday afternoon.

Dasht-e-Archi was a key base for the Taliban over the past few years and it was from there that they launched many attacks on Kunduz and other parts of north-eastern Afghanistan.

The Taliban has not yet commented on the operation.
