Five die in failed desert town jailbreak
2015-11-04
Beida, 3 November 2015:

Three security men were killed in five others injured in a failed jailbreak in Qatrun which also left two of the attackers dead and four captured.

The attack early this morning on the security directorate in the town, once a key Saharan trade link which is now one of the main transit points for people smugglers, was reportedly an attempt to free prisoners convicted of robbery and assault.

The assault failed but left five dead. The slain security officers were Sedi Kouri, Adem Bark and Ali Kokuni, all from the town. Qatrun municipality has been trying to organise the evactuation of the five wounded security men, Ibraheem Wardoku, Mohammed Kalikouri, Mousa Galma, Mohammed Ibraheem and Ismael Bedi to the east for treatment. It is unclear how seriously they were wounded in the shoot-out.

Qatrun is a largely Tebu town with a small Arab Murabiteen community who speak or understand Tebu. Both communities have long lived in harmony.
