Nangarhar Police Chief Claims Pakistan's ISI Supporting Daesh
2016-01-15
[Tolo News] Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
police chief Fazel Ahmad Sherzad on Thursday raised concerns over the activities of Daesh [Islamic State] in the province and said some elements in the region, including Pakistain's Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
(ISI), support the Death Eater group.

His statement comes a day after the group grabbed credit for the attack on the Pak consulate in Jalalabad, which resulted in the death of at least seven members of the Afghan cops.

Referring to attack on the Pak mission, Sherzad said the incident was worrying and accused ISI of helping the Death Eater group.

He said the security forces have launched a probe into the incident.

"Daesh [Islamic State] gunnies are supported by regional countries especially Pakistain but government forces are investigating attack on the Pak consulate," said Sherzad.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, the radioactive tadpoles grown into frogs. Really big frogs, in fact...
officials from Nangarhar provincial council have questioned the infiltration of the attackers into a highly guarded zone where the Pak mission is located, adding that it is surprising how the gunnies managed to enter a so-called safe area.

The Nangarhar mission attack was the first murderous Moslem-style attack on a Pak diplomatic mission in Afghanistan.

"I don't know how the attackers entered the consulate despite there being many checkpoints near the consulate," said Sohrab Qadiri a provincial council member.

Amid a surge in activities by Daesh [Islamic State] in Nangarhar, residents on Thursday blasted government and security of forces for not tackling the group, who have staged several attacks in Afghanistan since their emergence in the country last year.

Afghanistan has long accused the Pak spy agency of backing and funding Death Eater groups in Afghanistan in its quest to destabilize the country and pursue its own strategic objectives.

But one political analyst, Jawed Kohistan

i, said: "There are groups in Afghanistan and Pakistain that do not see peace and security in their interest and they want to achieve their interests through insecurity."

A former Pak military official Mohammad Asif said: "In my opinion there are groups in Afghanistan and Pakistain who do not want relations between the two countries to improve and therefore they want to conduct terrorist acts in both countries."
