| Operations led by Ata Mohammad Noor launched in Balkh ahead of Nowruz celebrations |

| [Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) launched clearance operations in northern Balkh province of Afghanistan to suppress the activities of the anti-government armed Death Eaters ahead of Nowruz celebrations. The provincial government media office said the counter-terrorism operations are led by the acting provincial governor Ata Mohammad Noor. The operations were launched late on Sunday afternoon in a number of districts of Balkh province, the provincial government media office said, adding that numerous Death Eaters were killed or injured during the operations. The Afghan cops also tossed in the calaboose Into the paddy wagon wit' yez! a number of Death Eaters during the operations which are still being conducted. The anti-government armed murderous Moslem groups have not commented regarding the launch of the operation so far. Balkh has remained among the relatively peaceful provinces during the recent years. However, there's more than one way to stuff a chicken... the anti-government armed Death Eaters have increased insurgency activities in a number of northern province recently, including certain parts of Balkh province. Nowruz marks the first day of the Persian New Year, an event tht has been celebrated for more than 3000 years. Thousands of people visit the northern Balkh province to participate in a traditional flag hoisting ceremony in Mazar-e-Sharif city which is performed in Hazrat Ali shrine. Balkh is not host to thousands of Afghans visiting from various provinces of the country but scores of people from the regional countries are also visiting the province to mark and celebrate the start of the new persian year. |
