Twelve militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) were killed during ongoing operations in two southeastern Turkish provinces on April 28, the Turkish military stated on April 29.

According to a statement posted on the Turkish General Staff’s official website, six PKK militants were killed in the Nusaybin district of the southeastern province of Mardin, while six others were killed in the southeastern province of Şırnak. Security forces also seized several explosive devices, machine gun bullets, Kalashnikov magazines, shotgun shells, rocket launcher ammunition, binoculars, a rucksack and a shutter gun gas mask.

Meanwhile, one soldier who was heavily wounded during clashes between the PKK and Turkish security forces in Şırnak on April 26 succumbed to his injuries on April 29.

In another incident on April 29, PKK militants threw a hand-made explosive at a military building in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır. No injuries were reported in the incident. The explosive detonated after hitting the roof of the military building belonging to the Defense Ministry’s Construction Estate Regional Directorate in the central Yenişehir district at around 1.30 p.m. The explosion only caused material damage to part of the roof.

A number of police units were deployed to the area following the attack. One shrapnel piece from the explosion also hit a parked car near the military building. In addition, police also examined surveillance cameras nearby to apprehend the PKK militants responsible for the attack.
