Sixty-seven people referred to trial over assassination of Egypt's prosecutor general |
2016-05-10 |
[AlArab] Egypt's Prosecutor General Nabil Sadek referred Sunday 67 people to the criminal court over the liquidation of top prosecutor Hisham Barakat in June 2015. Barakat, 64, was killed when a boom-mobile struck his convoy in the upscale east Cairo district of Heliopolis last year. In a statement issued on Sunday, the Prosecutor General's office said the defendants were members of the outlawed Moslem Brüderbund who "conspired" with Death Eaters of the Gazoo-based Islamist Paleostinian group Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, to target a number of leading Egyptian officials in order to "sow chaos in the country." In March, the Egyptian ministry of interior said14 members of the Moslem Brüderbund participated directly in the plan to murder Barakat. Hamas denied any involvement in the liquidation. The Moslem Brüderbund is designated as a terrorist organization in Egypt by the government. |
