2016-05-27
[DAWN] Sheikhupura police on Wednesday tossed in the calaboose
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
a man for allegedly posting "blasphemous" text on social media.

District Police Officer (DPO) Sarfraz Khan Virk told Dawn that some residents of Nabipura locality lodged a complaint with the Factory Area cop shoppe against the suspect, alleging he had posted blasphemous text on a social networking website.

He said police started the paperwork but haven't done much else under the blasphemy law against the suspect who was later arrested.

Initial investigations showed that the blasphemous messages were posted last year by another man, who was now living abroad, the DPO said.

No complaint was filed against the man living abroad, he added.

The DPO said the social media account through which the blasphemous text was posted had been dormant for the last eight to nine months. He said detailed investigation was continuing to verify the account details.

According to sources, police were also looking into a dispute over teasing of girls following which the complaint against the suspect was lodged.

#2  No, they just face lawsuits, get charged with civil-rights violations, or get pressured by mobs to quit their jobs.

#1  In this part of the world, such charges are not difficult to get. The beauty of the 1st Amendment is that one can utter just about anything they want without a blasphemy charge.
