| Iran to sue US for asset seizure | |

Iran is going in a few days to file a suit in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against the United States for its seizure of Iranian assets, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told the Parliament today.
Iran's President Hassan Rouhani on June 2 instructed the Foreign Ministry to implement a legislation passed by the parliament, committing the government to claim compensation from the US. The decision by the Iranian parliament came after a US court ruled on April 20 that $2 billion of Iranian assets frozen in a US bank account had to be turned over to the families of the American victims of a 1983 bombing in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, and other attacks blamed on Iran. The confiscated money belongs to the Central Bank of Iran (CBI). The assets had been previously blocked under the US sanctions. | |
