This Week in Guns, August 20th, 2016
2016-08-20

Rantburg.com

Not a whole lot to report on guns this week. Politics keeps pushing guns away from the headlines, even though guns are an existential civil rights matter, and thus a political issue. At Rantburg, we had some fun at the expense of a Wisconsin professor who wanted to stampede hunters into pushing for registration of hunting rifles as an example of how responsible gun owners should be.

His proposal makes no sense, using governmental resources for the doubtful purpose of registering the one firearms type almost never used in crime. Indeed, I can't see hunters being so angry about something they would gather at a public area in, say, Oregon, to protest. I can see AR and AK owners doing that, but not owners of Remington 700 bolt action rifles.

I guess if you live in a country where the king is sovereign and you are a subject, there is little you won't do to protect him from rubes who hold firearms to keep tyranny at bay. Our leftist opponents constantly say, "We don't want to take your guns." That is equivalent to the saying that diplomacy is the art of saying "Nice doggie" until you find a rock, presumably to strike the dawg. It is a well defined tactic used by domestic enemies of the Constitution in the past. They will continue to use it in the future, because it works.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

#9  What weapons does he use? Did he flash a federal badge at Seth to get him off the phone with his girl? How did it go down, badanov?

Harder than an Obamacare website.

#8  Yeah, guessing the butty professor doesn't have a meth head next door, ominously texting every time he pulls out the driveway.

#2  Bad, you got an Ask/Bid on a 12 lb. Napoleon/with carriage?

No, but if I did, I'd bid on it myself.

I'd need to get a new trailer hitch, though...
