Germany says over 500 potential attackers currently in country
2016-09-11
[IsraelTimes] Interior minister warns police are monitoring hundreds of people who could carry out jihadist terror attacks

Germany’s interior minister has warned his country is host to hundreds of potential Islamist Lions of Islam who could carry out attacks against the European nation.

Thomas de Maiziere told the Bild newspaper there were at least 520 potential attackers currently in the country, according to Rooters.

Another 360 people, he said, were also relevant targets for police due to their ties to potential terrorists.
Always good to have such things quantified, though that only covers the known knowns. We can assume another number less than 1.5 million of unknown knowns.
"The terror threat now stems from foreign hit teams as well as fanatical lone wolves in Germany," de Maiziere said.

"The hit teams are secretly smuggled into Europe and prepare their actions without being noticed, as we saw with the attacks in Gay Paree and Brussels," he said. "But it’s even more difficult to uncover the fanatical lone wolves. Unfortunately, there is a real and present danger from both threats."

Though counter-terrorism officials are monitoring and investigating all known potential assailants, "the authorities are assuming there are undiscovered lone wolf Lions of Islam out there."

2,300 migrants rescued in Mediterranean: Italian coastguard

[AlAhram] Around 2,300 migrants including many women and very young children were rescued from the Mediterranean on Saturday while on a perilous crossing to Italy, the Italian coastguard said.

The rescues follow a huge wave of migrants who arrived in Italy at the end of August, when more than 14,000 people were plucked to safety in the space of five days. Most of them were from sub-Saharan Africa.

According to Italy's interior ministry, about 124,500 migrants have arrived since the start of 2016, slightly lower than the 122,000 recorded last year.

Italy is sheltering growing numbers of would-be refugees as its neighbours to the north move to tighten their borders and make it harder for migrants to travel to their preferred destinations in northern Europe.

According to interior ministry figures this month, Italy now has 148,000 asylum-seekers in reception centres, compared with 103,000 in 2015 and 66,000 in 2014.

Romania police find 10 migrants hidden in truck

[AlAhram] Romanian border police have found 10 migrants, including two children, hidden in a truck transporting paper that was crossing the border into Romania from Bulgaria. A statement said that the migrants, nine Syrians and an Iraqi man, arrived at Romanian customs on Saturday morning.

The Bulgarian truck driver told border authorities he was transporting paper from Bulgaria to Germany. Police checked the vehicle and found the migrants hidden in the back of the truck next to pallets loaded with piles of paper.

Police said they paid 4,000 euros ($4,050) each for transport and were to be left in Vienna. The migrants and driver will be handed over to Bulgarian authorities.

#4  Close enough for government work right Raj? 8^)

Banged a lot of nails back in the '70s from Boston south to the Cape. Then Jimmy C tanked the economy and I got into 'puters. The rest, as they say, is history.

#3  There was an old saying when I was a nail banger; "Can't see it from my house" used whenever there was a problem that probably should be fixed.

Sounds like we were part of the same crew.

#2  monitoring hundreds of people

Just like the commercials: "Oh I'm not an exterminator; I'm a pest monitor....you have termites, bye"

There was an old saying when I was a nail banger; "Can't see it from my house" used whenever there was a problem that probably should be fixed.

It seems to be the motto of the elite these days. Maybe they need to see it from their house, iykwim.

If they didn't get in you wouldn't need to track them. Just saying.
