Three Eagles players raise fists during national anthem
2016-09-21
[NYDAILYNEWS] Athletes’ protests of police brutality during the national anthem continued prior to Monday Night Football between the Eagles and Bears. Cameras showed Eagles players Malcolm Jenkins, Steven Means and Ron Brooks standing together with their right fists raised in the air during the song.
Goodbye.
How very original.

#11  I was talking to someone the other day when I mentioned how surprised I was when I realized I didn't miss watching the NFL games.

And how much fun it was to go outside and throw a football with the kids while the weather is good.

I don't miss the halftime lectures. I don't miss all the fantasy stat crap. I don't miss all the bull waiting for highlights. I don't miss all the commercials. I don't miss having to change the channel when inappropriate for the kids commercials come on.

In perspective, I bled Chiefs red growing up.

We have gone from Joe Delaney, to Jovan Belcher, and now to this crap.

There are a ton of movies I have not seen. Just finished another book. Have some guttering to hang.

Bye.

#10  Not watching 'em anymore and going forward not drinking any Bud either.

The only way "The Suits" at NFL-Central will get the message is if their advertisers start feeling the pinch.

#9  I'm not sure if this link has already been posted, but a second time can't hurt. From CBS Detroit:

The NFL opener, a Super Bowl rematch between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers, brought 25.2 million viewers — which is an astonishing number of eyeballs. “For comparison, The Walking Dead averages around 14 million live viewers as TV’s most-watched show,” Forbes wrote.

But that’s down 8 percent from 2015 and 6 percent from 2014. Sunday’s numbers, Forbes added, were down 13 percent from last year.

“This also marked the lowest overnight season-opening rating in seven years,” Forbes found.

The article also mentions a #boycottNFL twitter hashtag that's starting to gain traction.

#8  Still not quite sure why we're paying any attention to these people at all.

#7  The NFL's ratings are down for each of the first two weeks compared to weeks 1 and 2 of last season.

Just saying.

#6  Yup. Lots of yard work to get done on a sunny Sunday afternoon...

#5  The NFL owns this now. It's their brand. It's your choice on whether to continue with that brand. Myself, I've moved on.

#4  CrazyFool, you're exactly right: the NFL is a BUSINESS. Their customers are the fans and the sponsors. If a significant number of people let the NFL know that they need to stop this shit NOW, or the NFL will listen. Or go out of business.

#3  It's not just the NFL that has a problem.

#2  The NFL isn't really a sport anymore, it's all business and entertainment. The WWF has more credibility IMHO.

#1  Fuck them.

And if this keeps up, fuck the NFL.

I LOVE football. But if one of the only *escapes* I enjoy keeps getting turned into more political bullshit, I'll spend my time elsewhere.

The dumbass commissioner of the NFL has an IRON fist when it comes to...pretty much anything. But his balls apparently shrunk back into his body when it came to the players offending a significant portion of the league's viewing audience.

You all should feel free to let the league know that you're not as excited about viewing their product since it transitioned from a *sporting* event into a *political* one.
