ISIS damage to an ancient monastery in Iraq is revealed |

![]() Under ISIS occupation, the monastery was converted into the headquarters for its morality police known as the Hisba, with the monk's bedrooms turned into jail cells. All crosses were removed, religious scripts scraped off the walls and all references to the Assyrian King Benham who builty the monastery were removed. "Their fundamental goal was to destroy Christian history and civilisation in the Nineveh plains," Duraid Elias, commander of Assyrian militia Babylon Brigades, told Rooters. |
