[TAP.INFO.TN] Justice Minister Ghazi Jribi said, on Thursday, the draft law on combating violence against women provides for the abrogation of the possibility for the rapist to stop Legal proceedings against him by marrying his victim.
At a hearing by the Committee on Rights and Freedoms at the House of People’s Representatives (HPR), on the draft law against violence to women, the minister indicated that this bill will amend Article 227a of the Code of Criminal proceedings.
He added that the bill is part of the activation of article 46 of the constitution, which obliges the state to take all measures to eradicate violence against women.
MPs called for setting the minimum age of marriage at 15 and to prosecute the perpetrator even if he marries his victim, stressing the need to educate children about respect for women. |
