![]() They added that the area police acting on a tip-off conducted a targeted raid in Nawalane where they came under attack. In an ensuing encounter, one suspect later identified as Ghulam Nabi alias Gull was killed. The police claimed to have seized a TT pistol and a hand grenade from his custody. The dear departed was associated with the Uzair Baloch-led Lyari ...one of the eighteen constituent towns of the city of Karachi. It is the smallest town by area in the city but also the most densely populated. Lyari has few schools, substandard hospitals, a poor water system, limited infrastructure, and broken roads. It is a stronghold of ruling Pakistan Peoples Party. Ubiquitous gang activity and a thriving narcotics industry make Lyari one of the most disturbed places in Karachi, which is really saying a lot.... gang, the police said. The ring leader, Uzair Baloch, has been in the custody of the law enforcement agencies over charges of spying. "Ghulam Nabi was involved in several murder cases," said City SSP Adeel Hussain Chandio. "He looked after drug business in Lyari," the officer added. |
