'Islamic' Kindergartens Cause a Stir in Austria
[AnNahar] A debate is raging in Austria after a study suggested that Islamic kindergartens in Vienna were helping to create "parallel societies" or even produce the dangerous homegrown radicals of the future.
According to its author, Ednan Aslan, a Turkish-born Austrian professor at Vienna University, some 10,000 children aged two to six attend around 150 Muslim preschools, teaching the Koran much like Christian ones do with Bible studies. At least a quarter are backed by groups propagating arch conservative strains of Islam like Salafism, or organizations that see religion not just as a private matter but integral to politics and society, Aslan believes.

[DailyMail] Police in Germany revealed they were pursuing 174,000 migrant criminal suspects in 2016, an increase of 52.7 per cent on the previous year. Islamist crime also rose by 13.7 per cent, including the truck attack on a Berlin Christmas market by a failed Tunisian asylum seeker. Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere admitted that migrant crime is increasing at a 'disproportionate rate', but blamed the increase on the migrants' unsettled housing situation last year.
At least 15 migrants drown off Greek island
[IsraelTimes] Greece’s coastguard says at least 15 people including children have died in a suspected migrant boat sinking off the Aegean island of Lesbos. Eight of the bodies were recovered in Greek waters while the Turkish coastguard found another seven bodies, a Greek coastguard spokeswoman tells AFP.
Two women, one of them pregnant, were recovered alive.
"According to the pregnant woman, there were 25 people on board the boat that sank,” the coastguard spokeswoman said, adding the dead included men, women and children.
Greece’s Aegean Sea islands are a primary transit point for refugees and migrants seeking to reach Europe from Turkey. Over a million people have landed in Greece since 2015, many of them fleeing civil war in Syria.
