BREAKING: Terror attacks reported at, around London Bridge
2017-06-03
[Telegraph] London Bridge has been placed on lockdown amid reports of three men carrying knives attacking people and up to 20 have reportedly been struck by a van. Armed police are at the scene in what is being described as a “major incident”, possibly a terrorist attack.

Witnesses described a white van mounting the curb and hitting as many as up to 20 people on the bridge. The incident happened at 10:30pm on Saturday. A cabbie on the bridge has reported he saw a stabbing man.

Members of the public have been warned to stay away from the area, and the busy London Bridge subway station has been closed.

Several eyewitness accounts have emerged which suggest there have been multiple casualties, with bodies strewn across the pavement. Twitter uses have also reported a stabbing and shots being fired in the area, though this remains unconfirmed.

One woman told the Sun, "We had to run there was loads of shooting".

According to one report 15-20 people were hurt after the car ploughed into them. There were also reports that somebody had run into a restaurant and stabbed two people.
Note: The Telegraph is liveblogging, and has already updated. Go to the link for the latest, which no doubt is not included here. As of 7:00 pm EDT:
  • 'Multiple' casualties following major incident in London

  • Police say they are responding to three incidents in London Bridge, Borough Market and Vauxhall

  • Reports a car collided with pedestrians on London Bridge

  • Officers dealing with reports of stabbings in Borough Market

#41  Looks like it's wrapped up for now, a good summary is at The Sun website.

I'm sure we'll learn more in the following days as the "fog" clears up.

#40  A correction on #33, It's Mark Rowley, not Mike and he is the Assistant Commissioner of Met Police, not Scotland Yard. He just happened to give his press conference at Scotland Yard. My mistake and for that I beg your forgiveness.

#39  Just 1 person armed with a decent pistol. Just ONE. Its a shame they are subjects, not citizens.

And if that person was trained to use the gun. I'm amazed by how many gun owner cannot shoot straight to save their life. I'm thinking New York City police.

The Metropolitan Police OTOH (and Scotland Yard as well, not sure about other UK police department, but suspect attitude is similar) seems to take carrying a gun very seriously and train the heck out of the gun carrying officers but br really good with the guns if they have to use it.

#38  SCFG, I didn't know that, but obvious when you point it out.

#37  #34 Charles, I noticed that too, there were reports of five men, three of which went on to Borough Market and was later shot by the police. Unknown where the other two went, I suspect one may have been shot by police on London Bridge and the other is who knows where at this point.

People saying that some of the suspects had guns. Police are not saying anything. I'm chalking this up to 'fog of war'. I'm sure we will know more in the after-report.

#35  #32 Phil, this is not like the movies or TV. Police, as a rule, are trained to make 'body mass' shots as many, if not most, of the readers here know. "Body mass' mean the heart. when heart is shot, heart has this tendency to stop, from shock if nothing else. Stopped heart does not pump blood, Un-pumped blood tend to remain in body. therefore no blood pool.

AHh I just read the above and if it sounds condescending, please accept my apologies as that is not my intention.

#34  Police claiming there were only 3 attackers. I've seen no mention of guns though. Reports have been between 3-5 so I guess that fits?

#33  Mike Rowley, Assistant Commissioner at Scotland Yard, just gave a statement. In short, three suspects were shot and killed, SAS and police ate hunting for one more terrorist. Six people were killed and 20 injured.

Nothing about the fourth suspect. Also reported elsewhere is that a bystander was shot in the head by police. No word if he's one of the six dead or what.

#32  Another thing is that in the picture above, if the Perp bled out, you'd expect to see a large pool of blood and I can't see any.

#31  Sky News is showing all the fire trucks turning around and leaving. Indicating things are winding down a bit. Of course the SAS and police will remain just in case, then it will be the Metropolitan CSI and assorted inspectors turn to finish this off.

#30  check out the nearby mosques...

Could be they are, and its' taking so long because of push-back by the....er...community.

Well then do a 'controlled explosion' or many, just to be on the safe side...

#29  I've just heard an ex-army officer say he heard 2 or 3 minutes of heavy gunfire about 10 minutes BEFORE he heard the sirens rushing to London Bridge.

It couldn't hurt.

#26  #6 I saw that, and wondered what the SAS were doing in London in the first place. Their usual base is 3 or 4 hours away.

The troops have been patrolling since the Manchester Arena attack. I imagine there are units of special forces in all the major cities, and will be until further notice -- the tax on society for not surrendering.

#25  Sky News is reporting that the SAS is now hunting for the one remaining suspect. No words on what happened to the fourth suspect.

#22  The Sun is apparently giving better coverage right now.

Terror incident leaves up to seven feared dead after van ploughs into pedestrians ‘before three men with hunting knives jump out and start stabbing people’

#21  The other terrorist that was shot dead by the police can be seen in the background with a cop standing near him in the picture above.

#20  The explosions reported, appear to be to 'disarm' the cannisters. I doubt they would do that if the perp was still alive. Although, would be a disincentive to future attackers if he was.

#18  Here's the picture in question that Charles mentioned:
Posted by: Seeking cure for ignorance   2017-06-03 21:21

#17  Phil_b: You might be right, there were reports of a person carrying a cannister, and they were running into and out of bars stabbing people. Early reports have police rushing into bars, keeping people down and safe. Also as time goes on, reports of people claiming Gunfire and Machetes.

Oh, and explosions on London Bridge.

Double oh, they caught the Cannister man according to the Liveblog. So there might be something to the gunfire reports too. Even have a picture of the guy!

#14  Attacking a restaurant with knives? Looking forward (guess that sounds terrible, but I'm past caring) to hearing more about that.

In Houston, or even Chicago,
You don't even put down your taco.
Poor London, stunned, running.
Here? Mums-of-three, gunning,
And yelling, "Yeehaw! Santiago!"

#11  If they do what they did to the IRA, the SAS will have fun and it'll scare the hell out of them. They thrive on publicity, not people vanishing quietly never to be heard from again.
Posted by: Silentbrick   2017-06-03 20:39

#10  The most glaring thing I notice so far about everything, is that no word at all on the attackers fate. Gives some credence to the SAS report I think, they're on a hunt.
