| Egypt court sentences 55 to 15 years, acquits 31 in August 2013 storming of police station |

| [AlAhram] A Giza criminal court sentenced on Monday 55 individuals to 15 years in prison and acquitted 31 others in the storming of Atfeeh cop shoppe in August 2013 following the dispersal of two major sit-ins supporting ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi. The court also sentenced 31 people to five years in prison in the case. The defendants were found guilty of using violence, rioting, possessing weapons and attacking public and private property. The sentences can be appealed. Following the dispersal of the sit-ins by police, rioters stormed cop shoppes and burned a number of churches. Hundreds of people have been convicted in similar cases since 2013. |
