UPDATE: Illinois Senate Overrides Gov. Rauner Veto of 32% Income Tax Hike
2017-07-05
[LI] The Illinois Senate has just approved the massive income tax hike, two days after the House approved it. This bill will permanently raise the income tax 32% from 3.75% to a little under 5%. It also raises the corporate tax rate from 5% to 7%.

Republican Governor Bruce Rauner vetoed the bill this afternoon. The Senate voted to override Rauner’s veto 36-18. Now the bills go back to the House, which will vote tomorrow.
As predicted right here, and across the globe.

#7  Fiduciary Responsibility

State and national constitutions need a clause that if the legislature is unable to balance the budget, outside of extreme circumstance (ie a state of war), all members of the body are barred for 10 years of any elected or appointed governmental position. You better believe they'll start compromising way before things like this occur.

#5  At least it will be clear whos fault it is when the state totally collapses so that any kind of lawsuits can be correctly applied.

#4  Yeah, this increase picks up less than half of Illinois' existing way overdue unpaid bills (not including pension obligations) in the first year.

They'll probably find something else to do with the increased revenue other than pay down their debt, though.
