[AlAhram] Three army personnel were killed Wednesday morning when an unknown assailant opened fire on security forces manning a toll booth on al-Ayyat’s International-Regional Road in Giza governorate, an army front man statement read.The security personnel killed were army personnel and two retired army officers.
The army’s statement mourned the victims and described the act as a terrorist attack by an unknown assailant.
The victims died from multiple gunshot wounds, al-Ayyat prosecution’s preliminary investigations stated.
The investigation has been transferred to the military prosecution.
Attacks against security forces have become common in recent years but are largely concentrated in North Sinai, where Egypt's army and police are battling an entrenched Islamist insurgency.
