#2 Some hot shots select "gear up" during taxi and the takeoff roll. relying upon the squat switch to keep the tires rolling until rotation. This allows a "cooler" looking takeoff and (depending upon the aircraft and airspeed) minimizes drag -> enhanced climb. Sometimes, however, a rotation will hiccup (runway surface, wind vector shift, etc.), allowing an aircraft so programmed to settle back on the runway sans "down and locked" with spectacular optics. |
