Infighting looms in Idlib as ceasefire between jihadi groups falters |
2017-08-02 |
[ALMASDARNEWS] A fortnight after the two main jihadi groups controlling the southwestern Syrian province of Idlib have signed a ceasefire, an all-out infighting is looming following today’s showdown. Local activists reported that Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham Death Eaters stationed at a checkpoint south of Saraqib have intercepted a convoy of four trucks for Faylah al-Sham. HTS Death Eaters seized the vehicles which were laden with weapons and ammunitions, and detained Abu Adas; Faylaq’s commander who was leading the convoy. In response, Faylaq al-Sham gave THS a time limit until midnight to release the convoy and the commander before acting accordingly. The showdown comes two weeks after HTS and Ahrar al-Sham ...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014... (a close ally to Faylaq) signed a ceasefire following fierce festivities in north Idlib which killed up to 50 Death Eaters from all sides. |
