Sweden’s Migration Agency to reduce staff numbers

[TheLocal.se] Sweden’s immigration authority Migrationsverket will reduce its staff next year, with the number of asylum seekers in the Scandinavian country falling. Cases will soon be resolved for the vast majority of asylum seekers who arrived in the country during the peak flow of migrants in 2015 and 2016. This, in combination with a much lower number of expected asylum applications, has led to a 700 million kronor (72 million euros) cut to the agency’s budget for 2018.
Greek police arrest trafficker with 90 migrants in truck

[Ynet] Greek police say they have arrested a trafficker carrying 90 migrants in his truck container. The truck was inspected outside the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki Friday morning, police announced Saturday. Police arrested the truck driver, a 55-year-old Greek man.
The migrants included 21 minors, police said, with more than 60 Iraqis and others from Eritrea, Ethiopia, Congo and Iran. They had crossed from Turkey, having paid 1,800 euros ($2,100) each to be transported to Athens, police said.
Germany accused of delaying refugee family reunifications

Swedish radio station hijacked to play Isis recruitment song

[TheLocal.se] Malmö residents who tuned into popular radio station Mix Megapol at around 8.30am on Friday suddenly found themselves listening to Isis recruitment song 'For the sake of Allah'. The song was played after the radio station's local airwaves were hijacked by an unknown offender, Bauer Media, which owns the station, confirmed after 24Malmö.se first reported the incident.
Marketing director Jakob Gravestam confirmed to 24Malmö.se that the three-minute song – with lyrics trying to tempt Westerners into joining Isis with promises about maidens waiting in paradise for fighters – was played for around 30 minutes.
Norway to bring in armed police at Oslo airport

[TheLocal.no] "The National Police Directorate [Politidirektorate] has asked to be armed and the Ministry of Justice and Public Security has agreed to temporary armament at Oslo Airport. The armament will initially apply for three months,” minister for justice and security Per-Willy Amundsen said.
Amundsen said that the potential for damage caused by a terror attack at Gardemoen was significant.
“It is therefore important that police, in a dangerous situation, are able to limit the damage caused by such an act. We want to do that by arming them,” he said according to VG’s report.
