#3  You can do some interesting things to thought processes, using minimal stimuli such as currents from flashlight batteries applied through the scalp, or small magnets. Hypnotists have long used their own breathing patterns, gestures, vocal tones to alter behavior of their subjects. Flashing lights, abrupt changes in subject matter, etc. also provoke confusion in many people, confusion which leads to heightened suggestibility. We are no where near as free and independent in our thinking as we would like to believe.
