| Two men claim trial to links with Abu Sayyaf |

[THESTAR.MY] Two men, who were placed in durance vileDrop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages! hours before the 29th SEA Games closing ceremony in August, have claimed trial to charges of having ties with the Abu Sayyaf ...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder... terror group. Hajar Abdul Mubin, 25, from Sabah who is also known as Abu Asrie, was charged under Section 130KA of the Penal Code with being a member of the group since 2010. Hajar was accused of committing the offence at ZA 2-14 Lorong Pangsa Baiduri 2, Taman Desa Baiduri, Cheras between 2010 and Aug 30, 2017. His brother-in-law, Abdul Syamir Dabilin, 25, a Filipino, was charged with intentionally omitting information regarding a terrorist act, an offence under Section 130M of the Penal Code. Both men lived in the same flat in Taman Desa Baiduri. Hajar is liable for life imprisonment and a fine, while Samir could be tossed in the clink Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un! up to seven years prison, fined or both upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Azlina Rasdi prosecution while the accused were unrepresented. High Court judge Mohd Sofian Abd Razak set Jan 11 next year for mention of the case and for the accused to hire lawyers. It was reported Hajar was among eight suspected Abu Sayyaf turbans ‐ Malaysians and Filipinos ‐ who were arrested in an operation in Cheras on the eve of National Day on Aug 30 which was also the closing ceremony of the Games. Hajar was believed to be a member of the Jolo-based Lucky 9 kidnap-for-ransom group with links to the Abu Sayyaf based in jungles of Jolo and Basilan ...Basilan is a rugged, jungle-covered island in the southern Philippines. It is a known stronghold of the Abu Sayyaf, bandidos, and maybe even orcs. Most people with any sense travel with armed escorts... islands in the Philippines. |
