Newt Gingrich: ‘The stage is being set' for GOP landslide in 2018
2018-01-02
[Wash Times] Newt Gingrich said Thursday that Democrats are headed for a major political upset in 2018, mostly due to the mainstream media’s dishonesty and the party’s inability to learn from its own mistakes.

"The great political surprise of 2018 will be the size of the Republican victory," the former Republican House Speaker wrote in a column for Fox News. "After members of the elite media have spent two years savaging President Trump, lying about Republican legislation, and reassuring themselves that Republican defeat was inevitable, the size of the GOP victory in 2018 will be an enormous shock."

Mr. Gingrich said the most glaring example of "fake news" is the media’s handling of the GOP’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which he said will be "the 2018 proving ground of media liberal bias and dishonesty."

"First, the media lied about the tax bill in an effort to convince most Americans their taxes would go up," he wrote. "Then, the media took surveys of people who opposed the GOP bill based on the false information supplied by the media. Then, the media talked again and again about how unpopular the Republican plan was and how it was going to weaken Republican candidates in 2018. Then, the bill passed, and unsurprisingly, it turned out to be dramatically better for Americans than the elite media had described."

#7  Dealing with Trunks is easy. Tell them you got elected campaigning on X, Y, and Z so now we expect you to vote for X, Y, and Z or the President may have a discussion with your local papers. They must not be allowed to forget who got them to Washington.

#6  Dealing with Trunks seems to be like herding cats. The only way this would work would be to displacing enough Donks so they wouldn't have a controlling interest.

#5  The new guys will be more TEA party than the old hand Republicans and Democrats they’ll be replacing, a good thing, but they will also be inexperienced and therefore less willing to horsetrade to get what they believe is needed, making the House whip’s job even less possible than it is now. Assuming the landslide happens, of course. But if it’s the Democrats who dominate, they will be much harder left than those they replace, and much less likely to horsetrade, etc. The leadership will be tearing out their hair on both sides of the aisle in 2019.

#4  Electing more Tame Republicans would accomplish nothing.

#3  If the Republicans had repealed Obamacare, this would be plausible.

#2  Suppose the GOP does get a landslide? I'm not sure how I feel about that. They were given the House, then the Senate, and then the the presidency and they still were squishy about getting anything done. Their support of Trump has been tepid at best. They always seem to be good at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. They are better than the Dems who I think are completely venal and corruption-ridden. The Dems ought to be prosecuted under Rico Laws. They have tried to steal a country and turn it into a crime-syndicate.
