John Lewis will not attend Trump's first State of the Union address
2018-01-13
[Washington Examiner] Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., revealed on Friday that he does not plan to attend President Trump’s first State of the Union address at the end of the month.

"I cannot in all the conscience be in a room with what he has said about so many Americans," Lewis told MSNBC host Katy Tur when explaining why he will not attend. "I just cannot do it. I wouldn’t be honest with myself."

Lewis’ comments come just a day after it was reported that Trump called some nations "shithole countries" during a White House meeting with lawmakers Thursday. As the lawmakers and Trump discussed a potential bipartisan immigration deal, Trump started to discuss immigration from African nations and asked why the U.S. is "having all these people from shithole countries come here?"

Lewis, who was a friend of Martin Luther King Jr., said the civil rights leader would tell Trump he must "wake up."

"You need to do what is right; you need to do what is fair," Lewis said when Tur asked what King would say to Trump. "You need to be a little more human and respect the dignity and worth of every human being and stop putting people down because of their race, their color, or their nationality."

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Jan. 15 and the State of the Union Address will be held on Jan. 30.

Can I take his spot? I even know Georgia isn't a Gulf Coast State! I love southern food, don't mind the Atlanta airport. I'll even punch myself in the face a couple times to match his scowl.

#9  ...Wanna watch some heads explode? Have DJT point out that there is no Constitutional requirement that he march up Capitol Hill and provide a stage for people who don't agree with him. Therefore, in keeping with George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and many other Presidents (including Jimmy Carter), he is sending a written address to the Congress, and saving the money in logistics and security otherwise spent.

Cut taxes.

Gutted Regulations.

I am so dissapointed to not be able to see the expressions on their faces after only one year of Trump.

#6  You cannot solve problems unless you show up for work and contribute to the solution of a problem. It is sad to say if we paid these people to stay home, the world would be a better place.
