| ISIS launches major offensive to break out of Deir Ezzor |

(ISIS) launched a massive offensive in the Deir Ezzor Governorate, tonight, targeting several areas under the control of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). ISIS reportedly began the attack by storming the SDF-held towns in the eastern part of Deir Ezzor, including Gharanej and al-Jahrah near the eastern bank of the Euphrates River. While no gains have been reported, the Islamic State alleges that their fighters have killed more than 20 members of the Syrian Democratic Forces. The Islamic State is currently attempting to break out of the Deir Ezzor Governorate and away from the Iraqi border, which they have been confined to for several months. |
