Armen Sargsyan elected President of Armenia |

[ALMASDARNEWS] Armen Sargsyan was elected the President of Armenia, Friday, through a vote which took place in Yerevan, Friday. The deputies elected him with 90 votes in favour and 10 against, without abstaining. To elect Sargsyan to the presidency, it was necessary to get 79 votes from the 105 deputies. Together, the Republican Party and the Dashnaktsutyun (7 deputies) provided 65 votes. The opposition Tsarukyan faction stated to support Sargsyan, which allowed ensuring the necessary number of votes. Under the new Constitution, Serzh Sargsyan’s successor was elected not by a general vote, but by deputies of the parliament and his powers will be limited. The new president and the old one aren't related, despite the same last name. |
