ATF investigating after VA congressional candidate cut AR-15 barrel (video) |
2018-03-09 |
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is investigating congressional candidate Karen Mallard after she posted a video on Facebook that shows her cutting apart an AR-15 rifle. The school teacher and Democrat is running for Virginia's 2nd Congressional District, hoping to oust Republican Congressman Scott Taylor. Skipping down to the stupid paragraph. Many of those comments were negative. Some people accused Mallard of political grandstanding. Several others said Mallard broke federal law by taking a legal firearm and altering it, making it into an illegal one. Many of them referred to details contained within the Sawed-Off Shotgun and Sawed-Off Rifle Act which, in part, prohibits people (except for those permitted by the act) from having a rifle that has been "modified to an overall length of less than 26 inches." |

#7 Actually, the way politicians work, there could be quite a can of worms here. Where'd she get that gun? LEO evidence room, perhaps? If so, was that a legitimate transfer? Was it actually even a gun? |

#6 She should be arrested for doing such a thing to a fine firearm. It's criminal I tell you. |

#5 Rambler__ you're applying logic here.. are you sure that's appropriate to ATF rules? |

#4 I am not a lawyer, nor a gun expert, but couldn't she have destroyed the gun, and not made it illegal by cutting it in half? Closer to the receiver? That would render the gun inoperable, without making it a short barreled rifle. |

#3 ...it's best to know the law and WTF you are doing. The irony applied to the gun grabbers, Donk Inc. |

#2 Perhaps Rep Congressman Scott Taylor can send her a case of 'Break Free CLP' lubricant for her new shoulder stock pistol or SBR. Rantburg U. offers the following link: How to legally own an SBR (Short Barreled Rifle). When you own and operate a firearm of any type, it's best to know the law and WTF you are doing. |

#1 Wouldn't it be funny if defending this activity "because free speech" wound up in front of SCOTUS and they had to rule "Well, yeah, but then that means everyone..." |
