#12  Rotary wing aircraft do not fly. They beat the air into submission. How could that not make a Marine smile?

#10  #8 Hornetizing comes to tilt-rotorland.....Posted by: USN, Ret.
Yesss... Retiring the A-6 and F-14 so we could go "one airframe to rule the heavens" F/A-18 seems to prove again that "multi-role does not necessarily mean multi-capable."

#9  Beseoker, they already have the Osprey, so exploring the gunship lite option, and I repeat myself, "...seems a worthwhile idea."
The more important thing is that maybe, just maybe, the USMC is recovering from the Transformationalist mania that they descended into in the 90's. Their Revolutionary systems such as the Osprey, the F-35, and the EFV have all been troubled -- if not disastrous flops. So a dose of Evolutionary programs is a pleasant surprise.

#6  Gunships R Us: Equipping The Hercs The US Marines: KC-130J Harvest HAWK,
The mod still lacks a bayonet lug for the front end though... Researching the option to 'gunship lite' the Osprey seems a worthwhile idea.

So it was just a matter of time

#4  #2 The original mission statement and justification for the aircraft was what again ?

Til they fixed the hydraulic problems it was mostly ground support. As in: holding the tarmac down or crashing

#3  ...In fairness, they're Marines. They'll weaponize a kid's Lego set.
