Four Islamic State militants killed as Iraq renews shelling of Syrian targets

Baghdad (Iraqinews.com) – Four Islamic State (IS) militants were killed Sunday in a shelling by pro-government forces of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) inside the Syrian territories, the troops’ media center was quoted as saying.

“The 28th brigade of al-Hashd al-Shaabi destroyed a hotbed of the Islamic State group at the eastern village of al-Dahhaj in Syria,” Knooz Media quoted the center as saying in a statement.

“The shelling left four Islamic State militants dead and several others injured,” the statement read. “The militant group also sustained severe losses as a result of the attack.”

Iraqi warplanes strike Islamic State outposts in Syria anew

Baghdad (Iraqinews.com) – Iraqi warplanes launched on Sunday a new wave of air raids against outposts of the Islamic State group in neighboring Syria, the latest in a series of airstrikes aimed at eliminating a terrorist threat coming from the neighboring country.

Today’s air raids were launched upon directives of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi with the aim of targeting Islamic State leaders in the group’s stronghold of al-Deshisha on the Iraqi-Syrian border, Baghdad Today news website quoted Abadi’s media office as saying in a statement.

The second-of-its-kind airstrike was staged to eliminate a threat posed by Islamic State leaders against Iraq’s security and stability, according to the statement.

Last month, Spokesman for the Operation Inherent Resolve Combined Joint Task Force Army Col. Ryan Dillon praised successful air strikes launched by Iraq and U.S.-led international coalition against the Islamic State group in Syria.

Dillon, speaking from Baghdad, Iraq, shared a couple videos of airstrikes against the terrorist group while describing how Iraqi and coalition forces have detained suspected terrorists, destroyed IS tunnel systems, and destroyed IS weapons caches.

terrorist group in Syria’s northeastern province of Hasakah as Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi had pledged to continue airstrikes on the positions and headquarters of the hard boyz in the neighboring war-battered country.

Abadi’s office said in a statement that the 66-year-old prime had ordered the "painful strike" which targeted "a meeting of ISIS commanders south of al-Dushashiya desert region in Syrian territory. The position was completely destroyed."

Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) front man Brigadier General Yahya Rasool later stated that F-16 fighter jets were used in the early morning strike, and the raid was "successful."
