Americans are Dying for China in Afghanistan
2018-05-12
h/t Gates of Vienna
...Yet, while US policy-makers are trying desperately to stabilize Afghanistan, a shift is being orchestrated by China, which stands to gain from what Afghani author Mushtaq Rahim recently referred to as Beijing's "economic development agenda."

China, he writes, "has been looking at Afghan affairs with a 'wait and see' approach and has gone into hibernation most of the time in debates regarding future of Afghanistan.

"While one can argue that the size and extent of the Chinese economy may not need Afghanistan for its growth and expansion agenda...A fractured or failed Afghanistan will pose significant security threats for China... challenging a major part of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) i.e. China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)...

#5  Look at a map. Where is Afghanistan? Where is the Line of Communication, the Logistics route where the beans n' bullets travel from the US to there? Looks really stupid, doesn't it?
The Original Punitive Raid, or as the Victorians quaintly called it a Butcher and Bolt campaign, made some sort of sense. The 9/11 Operation made us very mad and Everybody, starting with the Taliban, needed to get the word that Punishment was the result of such activity.
Trying to civilize Afghanistan ... maybe if you partitioned Afghanistan/Pakistan, erased the Durand Line, and redrew the borders to make a new country called Pushtun-i-stan. (The national flag being a field of poppies) After that dig a deep moat around the new country, fill it full of crocodiles and let the natives 'do their own thing' as long as they stay at home.
But, Nooooo, the Jet-Set Meddlers got involved and here we are almost two decades later.

#4  Calling this war is like calling the hard Left liberals. A kinder gentler war is not war. Like Hollyweird productions it has all the flash and sounds, but the world is not altered when you leave the theater.

What do you call the never ending on and off conflict on our internal frontiers from 1790-1890? Regardless of what the pseudo moralists proclaim we did not go full genocide on the natives. We did not mobilize our population as we had done 1861-65 to solve the issue. The handsome profits were made during that 4 year conflict.

The problem all along has been virtue signalling by our oligarchy. The one goal of the war was and is the security of the US and its people. They chose to instead play at war while demonstrating their 'civility'. It hasn't worked.

#3  Whoever said the objective is to win? It's not. The objective is endless war to enable handsome profits. Plus the globalists get a foothold in Central Asia which is vitally important for some strange reason.

#2  Any different than the blood and lives spent for Europe only to see it commit suicide by 2018 by EUSSR apparatchiks?

#1  The US will have difficulty winning a war in a landlocked country where China's ally, Pakistan, controls the supply of troops and regulates the operational tempo through its support of the Taliban and the Haqqani network.

After nearly 17 years, an absolutely blinding flash of the obvious.
