The question for this kind of story always is: mad, bad, or jihad? Around here the first assumption is jihad, and so the story was originally posted, after which we look for subsequent developments.
[KGW] PORTLAND, Ore. A hit-and-run driver hit three women on a sidewalk near the Portland State University campus Friday morning.

Police officers are searching the city for the suspect.

Two of the women suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash near Southwest 6th Avenue and Hall Street. The other victim's injuries were serious, but not life-threatening, according to Portland police. All three were rushed to Portland hospitals.

It's unclear if the crash was intentional.
Latest update says it was intentional.
In a news conference, Sgt. Chris Burley with Portland police said a fourth person may have been injured in the crash and walked away from the area..

That person has not contacted police or medics.

Witnesses told KGW that the suspect drove a dark blue or purple SUV onto a sidewalk and hit at least three young women before driving away. Witnesses also said the suspect followed traffic rules, including stopping at red lights, while leaving the scene around 10 a.m.

Police did not confirm the vehicle description. Detectives are looking at surveillance video from the area in an effort to locate the suspect.
OPB adds:
Based on witness reports, police began seeking a blue Mazda Tribute SUV soon after the hit-and-run. They found a vehicle fitting that description around 12:45 p.m. Friday and took an older white man into custody. They say there is no ongoing danger for the community.

The Mazda involved in the hit-and-run is registered to Greg Porter, a 61-year-old man with a Southeast Portland address, according to Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicle Services.

The DMV said Porter updated his information on May 15.

Court records show Porter has no significant criminal history.

The address on Porter’s driver’s license is the same as a long-term care facility, Secora Health and Rehabilitation of Cascadia.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reported the director of the facility said the man who police arrested was a patient who moved out on May 1. The news organization also reported the director said the suspect “suffered from delusions.” Calls by OPB to Secora were not immediately returned.

#3  Mercer has a new article out blaming the shootings on a 'moral decline.' She may very well have a point.

#2  When shootings occur, there is an immediate call by the left for draconian new restrictive gun laws. This doesn't occur when people are mowed down with cars.
