(ISIS) launched a big counter-offensive in southeast Deir Ezzor, today, targeting the strategic town of Baghouz al-Tahtani, which is located along the Iraqi border. According to reports from Deir Ezzor, ISIS launched this major counter-assault after repelling the Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) attempt to seize the town of Baghouz al-Fouqani. In addition to failing to capture Baghouz al-Fouqani, the SDF’s assault on the Islamic State stronghold of Hajjin would also fail after several repeated attempts to seize the town. ISIS has allegedly reentered Baghouz al-Tahtani after driving back the SDF troops from Baghouz al-Fouqani this morning. Should they retake Baghouz al-Tahtani, then they will have control over another Iraqi border-point. |
