Turkey to look for alternatives if US reneges on F-35 deal: Cavusoglu

"There are currently no delays, cancellation regarding the sale and handover of F-35 fighter jets. Even though it's a very low probability, Turkey will look for alternative aircraft from other countries and accelerate efforts to build its own if the US breaks F-35 deal," he said.

The top Ottoman Turkish diplomat also reminded Washington that Ankara would not accept threats regarding its defense procurements, referring to its plan to buy S-400 air defense missile systems from Russia.

Last month, a senior Israeli military official revealed that the Tel Aviv regime is engaged in talks with the United States over delivery of F-35 single-engine stealth fighter jets to Turkey without performance-enhancing software.

#7  ...Here's what I can't figure out, and bear with me.

Every time an F-35 gets fired up, or has any but the most minor maintenance done, it sets up a WiFi connection with HAL9000 - I mean, Lockheed Martin. It's automatic. That way, LockMart can download any system upgrades/changes/corrections, the same way Microsoft does with your computer every day. And we already know that if the little monster can't call home...it won't even start:

"The F-35 has a logistics system (ALIS) that requires an internet connection to a centralized maintenance system in the United States. ALIS is kept permanently informed of each aircraft's technical status and maintenance requirements. ALIS can, and has, prevented aircraft taking off because of an incomplete data file. If the internet link is down, the aircraft can't fly even if there is nothing wrong with it. This is one of the more bizarre problems. It could lead to a situation in which enemy aircraft are inbound and the F-35s are refueled and ready to go but can't take off to meet the threat."

American Thinker: 5 reasons F35s are too dangerous to fly

And we also know that the Lightning is keeping us informed on what our allies are doing with it:

‘Spy’ F-35s send sensitive Norwegian military data back to Lockheed Martin in the United States

...So given that we have the ability to brick the damned airplane with a tap of a keypad, what makes the Turks think we won't do it to them? I mean, we will know if they open a single hatch they're not supposed to - we're definitely going to throw the kill switch if we have to.

#5  He should order planes from the Iranians. Reading the Iranian press releases they are G-R-REAT! Suitably Islamic, no Juice cooties, too!

#4  Oh, go buy Putie's stuff. Looks good. Survivability somewhat suspect against American/Israeli hybrids.

#3  I hear Russia and China have some fighter aircraft available for reduced rates.

#2  Oh let them buy the F-35s. After paying for it, Turkey couldn't afford to fo basic maintenance on the F-35 much less operate it effectively!

As long as it is not the "C" model, that one seems to actually fly well. (Possibly due to the larger wings)

#1  Speaking as your Military Advisor, I recommend the Super Tucano over the F-35. Lower unit cost, easier maintenance (inshallah!) and better suited for putting down the local population of Gulenists.
