...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... hosted an iftar dinner marking the end of the day’s Ramadan fast in northwestern Turkey. About 1,100 people attended the dinner, the Daily Sabah reported. The dinner sponsored by members of the Jewish community of Turkey and the Chief Rabbi Foundation was held Monday night in the Edirne province near the landmark Selimiye Mosque, according to the report. Edirne Governor Gunay Özdemir called the dinner an example of how people from different faiths can live together in peace. It is the fourth year that a Jewish-sponsored interfaith iftar dinner has taken place in the province. | |
